Friday Night Live Friday Night Live is the right idea at the right time. Herndon has a daytime population that swells to more than 40,000. The downtown area is soon to be revitalized with the June 1 opening of the new municipal center. And the community is energized about the potential of an enlivened town green. The Friday Night Live series of free concerts will go a long way toward convincing some of those who work in Herndon to stay after 5 p.m. on Fridays. Creditable, free entertainment should prove hard to resist, especially for those facing a lengthy rush-hour drive. If successful, and we hope it is, the concert series will make downtown Herndon the place to be on Friday afternoons. Business will increase for area restaurants and merchants, and the community will have a new place and a new reason to gather. Neighbors can meet neighbors, couples can forget about work and singles can have a place to get to know one another. Doug Downer, Bob Galloway, the town and its officials and everyone who has helped make Friday Night Live possible should be thanked. And the best way to thank them is to turn out for the ribbon cutting of the new municipal center Thursday, June 1, have a good time and come back throughout the summer. |
